Al-Futtaim’s Electric Mobility Company launched the Polestar 4 last night in an event that let attendees to take the new electric vehicle (EV) for a test drive.
The SUV Coupe debut at the SEE Institute within Sustainable City attracted industry insiders and automotive enthusiasts, marking another milestone for Al-Futtaim’s EV-focused division, established only 18 months ago to support the UAE’s green transition.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director Hasan Nergiz, emphasised Al-Futtaim’s journey in electric mobility, highlighting the company’s rapid expansion since its inception. “In just 18 months, we’ve supported over 3,500 customers transitioning to new energy vehicles,” Nergiz said, underscoring Al-Futtaim’s dual approach. “While we function with the agility of a startup, we also leverage Al-Futtaim’s extensive automotive infrastructure and expertise, which allows us to grow faster and serve our customers better.”
Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility Company was created as a response to the UAE government’s vision for carbon neutrality by 2050, and Nergiz noted that Al-Futtaim’s commitment to the UAE Green Mobility Initiative includes a target to convert over 50% of their vehicles to new energy models by 2030. As part of this pledge, Al-Futtaim plans to install over 10% of the UAE’s total EV charging infrastructure, forming a vital part of what Hasan termed the “Al-Futtaim electric mobility ecosystem.”
The highlight of the evening, the Polestar 4, was introduced by Krishn R. Latchan, Head of Retail for Polestar UAE traced Polestar’s journey from its origins as a Volvo racing team in 1996 to its current focus on high-performance, luxury EVs since 2017. “Performance is in Polestar’s DNA,” Latchan stated. “We launched Polestar in 2022, and as of today, we have nearly 1,000 Polestar vehicles on UAE roads.”
Latchan described the Polestar 4 as an electric SUV coupe with a range of up to 620 kilometers and an impressive 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 3.8 seconds before the audience moved to a separate space for the official unveiling of the Polestar 4
“This vehicle represents the future of sustainable luxury and performance,” he said. The Polestar 4 joins an existing lineup, including the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3, each offering a blend of design, range, and advanced technology.
The Polestar was named after the star used by sailors in the northern hemisphere to find their way in the darkness, and there’s something appropriate about Al-Futtaim wanting to use the brand, alongside Chinese EV-maker BYD’s range, to head the UAE’s movement towards clean mobility.
