Serco to provide fire and rescue services at Red Sea International Airport

Team will operate a fleet of modern, specialised emergency vehicles and equipment, aligning with the regulatory standards set by the GACA

Serco has been awarded a SAR 157 million contract to deliver aviation fire rescue and paramedical services at the newly established Red Sea International Airport in Saudi Arabia.

The eight-year contract, granted by daa International, the airport operators, marks a crucial step in enhancing the airport’s safety and operational standards.

Serco’s role at Red Sea International Airport involves providing Category 7 services, a requirement for airports that involves specialist-trained fire rescue and paramedical personnel

To fulfill this mandate, Serco has assembled a team of 65 highly skilled professionals, tasked with offering critical fire and rescue services to ensure the safety and security of the airport’s operations.

This team will operate a fleet of modern, specialised emergency vehicles and equipment, aligning with the regulatory standards set by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). Such services are vital for maintaining the safety of passengers, staff, and the airport infrastructure, contributing significantly to the airport’s smooth and efficient functioning.

In preparation for the contract’s commencement, Serco has focused on attracting and training Saudi nationals, fully staffing the critical operation of the emergency dispatch and control room function with local talent. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, emphasizing national workforce development.

Phil Malem, CEO of Serco Middle East, expressed Serco’s commitment to making Red Sea International Airport one of the safest globally. He emphasised the company’s extensive experience in providing fire and rescue services and its dedication to ensuring passenger and aircraft safety.

Paul O’ Donovan, CEO of Red Sea International Airport, praised Serco’s world-class expertise and successful track record, noting that their partnership will position Red Sea International Airport as a global safety model. He highlighted the long-term nature of this agreement, underscoring its importance in safeguarding the well-being of the airport’s guests and staff.

This contract represents a strategic collaboration between Serco and daa International, reinforcing the commitment to safety and efficiency at Red Sea International Airport, a key hub in Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector and a pivotal component of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 development plan.
