UAE asks drivers to show how much they know about security and safety at gas stations

New survey assesses public awareness as part of national awareness campaign for security and safety at gas stations in UAE

The Joint Committee for Security and Safety, a collaborative effort led by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the General Command of Civil Defense at the Ministry of Interior, and strategic partners, has launched an extensive survey to assess public awareness and compliance with security and safety protocols as part of the joint national awareness campaign for security and safety at gas stations in 2023.

In partnership with key entities like Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC)—ADNOC Distribution, and Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (Emarat), the awareness campaign is scheduled to run until September 25th, 2023.

The survey, available in both Arabic and English, targets all users and visitors to gas stations across the Emirates.

It comprises nine sections, covering two critical aspects: awareness and adherence to security and safety guidelines advocated by the campaign. These guidelines encompass reducing speed to 20 km/h when entering the station, remaining inside the vehicle, refraining from smoking, turning off the engine, and ensuring the fuel tank is securely closed. The survey will be conducted at all gas stations in the country, with the results to be unveiled at the campaign’s conclusion.

H.E. Eng. Sherif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, stressed that the survey is part of the Joint Committee’s commitment to monitoring the level of awareness and adherence to security and safety standards at petrol stations. “We will spare no effort to enhance these standards, realize the highest benchmarks of security and safety at gas stations, and safeguard both lives and property,” Al Olama added.

HE Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Group CEO of ENOC, noted that the survey will contribute to the campaign’s success by engaging with all intended audiences through diverse communication channels. He emphasized the importance of gauging awareness levels regarding the appropriate protocols at gas stations, which play a pivotal role in achieving the highest standards of safety and security.

Eng. Bader Saeed Al Lamki, CEO of ADNOC Distribution, highlighted that the questionnaire will enable the committee to assess awareness of security and safety regulations among petrol station users and visitors. The insights garnered will enhance campaign activities and build upon previous achievements.

HE Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi, Director General of Emarat, underscored the public’s essential role in strengthening security and safety measures at gas stations. The survey aims to increase community participation in the campaign and generate valuable data to support ongoing efforts to reinforce safety and security foundations.

Since its launch, the campaign has successfully raised awareness among over 100,000 individuals daily, including drivers and gas station patrons. This increased awareness has led to a higher commitment to adhering to safety and security protocols, contributing significantly to overall public safety.
