ACCIONA says it is ready to prove that zero-emission electric vehicles can take on the extreme conditions of the Emirates Desert Championship rally.
Its zero-emission electric vehicle, the ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered, will be taking part in the sixth edition of the Emirates Desert Championship, which will be held in Dubai between the 15th and 17th of November.
It will be the first electric model to compete in this extreme rally after the organisers created a new category “to showcase the potential of clean energy compared to fossil in extreme tournament conditions.”
The race will cover 411Km and will be divided into two stages.
“Practically the entire track will run through the Liwa desert, where the track crossing the sand dunes illustrates the tournament’s uniquely extreme and tough conditions,” explained ACCIONA.
The ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered was the first electric vehicle to complete the iconic Dakar Rally and has subsequently joined other FIA World Championship events, such as the Italian Baja or the Morocco Rally, as well as regional competitions such as the Tatts Finke Desert Race (Australia).
Joining the Emirates Desert Championship will see the vehicle become the only 100% electric vehicle to participate in homologated rally events across five continents.
2017 Dakar pilot Ariel Jaton returns behind the wheel of the ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered with veteran co-driver and team manager Edu Blanco completing the team.
