Al Ain commences $49.8mn roundabout construction revamp

Al Markhaniya roundabout to become traffic signal intersection and Asharej tunnel to be built

Al Ain City Municipality (AAM) and Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) have started construction work on the Asharej and Al Markhaniya roundabout development project in Al Ain city at a total cost of approximately $49.8 million.

According to report by state news agency, WAM, scope of work includes transforming the existing Al Markhaniya roundabout to a traffic signal intersection and converting Asharej to a tunnel. Follow up work also involves developing the link road between the two intersections, landscaping, sidewalks and cycling paths.

Meanwhile, the revamp work on the two roundabouts aims to facilitate traffic movement, reduce congestion and enhance traffic safety, and reduce trip, the report stated.

Musanada and AAM are delivering this project in collaboration with the department of transport, the Integrated Transport Centre, the Abu Dhabi police headquarters and other stakeholders, WAM reported.
