The Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) working with the Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi has completed the $15.8 million Al Aryam Bridge Interchange project.
The interchange is billed as a vital project that aims to develop and improve the main road network in Abu Dhabi.
It connects Al Aryam island located 60km from Abu Dhabi city to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed highway and is said to facilitate inbound and outbound traffic in all directions.
Musanada said that approximately 450 engineers and workers were engaged in the execution of the project. The scope involved the construction of a main bridge, a utility bridge beside entrances and exits off the bridge, a surface water sewer network and its accessories, the installation of traffic signs and road signs, and the supply of LED street lighting for the bridge and its entrances and exits. Musanada says the use of LEDs will help reduce energy consumption by approximately 41% at minimum.
According to a report by WAM, the project is the only link connecting Al Aryam island to Sheikh Zayed highway. The project serves Al Aryam island and users of Sheikh Khalifa highway heading to the island.
The project also involved maintenance of the 12.2km main road connecting Al Aryam island to the new bridge, which included provisions for traffic safety such as road markings, traffic signs, etc.
The DoT commented that the execution of road projects in Abu Dhabi is part of the effort to realise the vision of the UAEs rational leadership, in line with the comprehensive development plan agreed for Abu Dhabi and its suburbs.
