Kia’s concept PBV treated to LG home makeover

By mixing vehicles with home appliances, Kia aims to lead a transformative shift in customers’ lifestyles, says Won-Jeong Jeong

Kia Corporation and LG Electronics have announced a new partnership to bring a fresh vision for Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) technology to life, with concept vehicles designed to function as smart, mobile environments for both work and recreation.

Unveiled at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show, the partnership introduces two PBV concept models – PV5 Spielraum Studio and PV5 Spielraum Glow Cabin – merging LG’s advanced home appliances and AI solutions with Kia’s PBV architecture. The aim is to launch these multifunctional vehicles by H2 2026, with a clear view to redefine how commercial vehicles can serve solo professionals, mobile businesses, and the growing lifestyle-on-the-go market.

The Spielraum Studio concept, targeted at mobile professionals and entrepreneurs, transforms the PV5 into a high-tech workspace with LG’s AI-powered appliances such as modular Stylers, smart mirrors, and built-in coffee machines. The integrated AI system tracks business schedules and adapts settings in real time, supporting the needs of drivers working on the move.

For leisure-focused users, the Spielraum Glow Cabin turns the PBV into a premium picnic or glamping experience on wheels. Featuring refrigerators, wine cellars, and lightwave ovens, each equipped with MoodUP™ colour-changing panels, the vehicle enhances outdoor gatherings with a personal touch.

Won-Jeong Jeong, EVP and Head of Korea Business Division at Kia, stated: “By offering mobility space solutions that combine automobiles with home appliances, we aim to lead a transformative shift in customers’ lifestyles. This partnership with LG Electronics advances the core value of PBVs, contributing to a new mobility paradigm.”

From a practical fleet perspective, the partnership signals a shift toward modular, multi-use commercial vehicles, with PBVs set to become platforms that cater not only to transport needs but also mobile operations, events, pop-up retail, and on-demand services.

Truck and van fleets across the Middle East could eventually benefit from PBVs that adapt to local lifestyle trends and business demands, offering a flexible, scalable vehicle solution tailored to the gig economy, smart city integration, and experiential travel.
