Diesel fuel prices slashed by 12% in UAE

Diesel prices in the UAE will be 12% lower from January 1, in a move likely to be welcomed by the local construction industry.

The UAE government moved to cut fuel subsidies in August, with prices set monthly, and tracking the open market more closely.

Diesel fuel will be AED1.61 ($0.438) per litre from the beginning of January, compared to AED1.83 per litre this month. Heavy industry and the transportation sector relies heavily on the fuel.

The price of other gasoline products will also be lower in January. Super (98 octane) will be priced at AED1.69 per litre, Special (95 octane) at AED1.58, and E Plus (91 octane) at AED1.51.

The announcement was made by the Fuel Price Follow-up Committee, chaired by Dr. Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, and reported by state news agency WAM.
