Emirates Transport completes comprehensive safety training for over 18,000 bus drivers and supervisors

A total of 7,610 buses underwent rigorous inspections at ET’s 23 Service Centres across the country between June and August

Emirates Transport (ET), the UAE’s largest provider of school transport, has announced that more than 18,000 of its bus drivers and supervisors successfully completed an extensive safety training programme in preparation for the new academic year.

The comprehensive training, which focused on the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of drivers and bus supervisors, included a variety of practical sessions designed to equip them with the skills needed to handle any situations that may arise. Key areas of training included managing technical issues, conducting thorough bus inspections before each trip, safe driving in all weather conditions, and prioritising student welfare. The programme also covered essential topics such as firefighting, understanding key danger zones (referred to as the ‘Golden Rule’), handling bus evacuations and emergencies, minimising accidents, and effective communication with customers.

In addition to the training, Emirates Transport has ensured that its fleet is in top condition for the return to school. A total of 7,610 buses underwent rigorous inspections at ET’s 23 Service Centres across the country. Between June and August, technical experts dedicated over 26,000 working hours to analysing all mechanical and electrical components, as well as safety systems, to ensure that every vehicle meets the stringent regulations set by schools and authorities.

To further meet the high demand and ensure a smooth service for the new school year, ET has hired 533 new bus drivers and 466 female bus supervisors, expanding its workforce to maintain its commitment to safety and efficiency.

Alex Rentier, CEO of Emirates Transport, commented on the preparations: “As the UAE counts down to the start of the new academic year, we have left no stone unturned when it comes to the safety of our students on our buses.

“As well as hiring extra staff, our bespoke training programme, aimed at our bus drivers and supervisors, has been the cornerstone of their development, reinforcing the importance of safe road practices. This knowledge will help them to not only provide seamless and efficient journeys but also enable them to be more confident when dealing with any potential situation.

“This training programme, allied with our extensive vehicle maintenance and inspection schedule, means that Emirates Transport is perfectly prepared to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the nation’s children as they return to school.”

Emirates Transport’s commitment to safety and thorough preparation highlights its dedication to providing reliable and secure transport services, ensuring that students across the UAE can travel to and from school with confidence and peace of mind.
