Chery, the Chinese automotive manufacturer, made a significant splash at the Qatar Global Intelligent Mobility Symposium (Qatar GIMS) last week by officially introducing its cutting-edge 4.0-era Q-Power architecture at the event.
The Q-Power global power platform is a multi-decade effort to produce a range of power solutions, such as fuel, hybrid, pure electricity, and hydrogen power.
25 years since the Q-Power concept was initiated, Chery unveiled two impressive Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) models: the Tiggo 8 Plug-in Hybrid and the Tiggo 7 Plug-in Hybrid.
During the highly-anticipated press conference held at Qatar GIMS, Simon Liu, Vice General Manager of Chery Middle East, reflected on Chery’s impressive history in the Middle East market, stating, “Chery made its debut in the Middle Eascarehicles, CKD components, engines, as well as manufacturing technology and equipment abroad. Earning recognition and admiration, Chery has garnered a passionate user base in over 80 countries and regions, boasting more than 12 million global users.”
Elaine Li, Chery’s Brand Director, shed light on the core values that drive the company’s success, saying, “As a leading figure among Chinese brands, Chery centers its brand values around ‘Technology, Green, Family, and Companionship.’ For years, Chery has honed in on real-world vehicle use scenarios, crafting products that not only satisfy users but also promote sharing.
“The Q-Power is a testament to Chery’s 26-year evolution in powertrain technology, embracing diverse power modalities like gasoline, hybrid, pure electric, and hydrogen.”
The PHEV hybrid system under the Q-Power umbrella boasts a 1.5T engine paired with a dual-motor, three-engine power setup.
Chery’s technology enables the vehicle to simultaneously drive and generate electricity using two motors.
The newly unveiled vehicles impressively offer a 95-kilometer range in pure electric mode and a comprehensive 950-kilometer range in hybrid mode. Exceptional fuel efficiency is achieved, with consumption as low as 1.55 liters per 100 kilometers. Furthermore, a full electric charge can be accomplished in just 3 to 5 hours.
Empowered by the Q-Power technology platform, the Tiggo 8 Pro Plug-in Hybrid and Tiggo 7 Pro Plug-in Hybrid models deliver high performance and energy efficiency. They feature a pioneering three-engine efficient power combination, and their unique attributes include a 3-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DHT) developed independently by Chery.
Additionally, the vehicles offer an array of cutting-edge technology features, including a remarkable 24.6-inch super-large intelligent curved dual-screen, Sony’s custom 8-speaker luxury audio system, and an L2.5-level intelligent driving assistance system, positioning them as strong contenders in the plug-in hybrid market.
From January to September 2023, Chery Group achieved cumulative car sales of 1,253,237 vehicles, marking a remarkable year-on-year growth of 40.2%. Notably, the cumulative sales for the first three quarters of 2023 have already surpassed the total sales for the entire year of 2022, confirming Chery’s growing status as a driving force in the global automotive market.
