Volvo Trucks showcasing its vision for the Future of Sustainable Transport at IAA 2024

“I’m excited to see the reactions from customers and media on our new truck ranges and future technologies," says President Roger Alm

Volvo Trucks is positioning itself to make a significant impact at the IAA 2024 exhibition with a robust showcase of its latest advancements aimed at decarbonising transport and enhancing road safety.

The event will highlight Volvo’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions through a diverse array of trucks equipped with battery-electric powertrains, fuel cells, and renewable fuels in combustion engines.

The IAA 2024 exhibition provides an excellent platform for Volvo Trucks to demonstrate its journey towards zero emissions and zero accidents. Visitors will have the chance to explore the company’s newest trucks and cutting-edge technologies, reflecting Volvo’s global strength and future-oriented strategies.

Volvo Trucks’ Global Product Range

Volvo Trucks will present its recently launched Volvo FH Aero range, designed for Europe, Asia, and Africa, featuring both electric and biofuel-powered variants. The North American market will see the introduction of the all-new Volvo VNL, which includes groundbreaking autonomous technologies. IAA 2024 will mark the European debut of the Volvo VNL. Both truck models emphasize fuel efficiency and safety.

“I’m excited to see the reactions from customers and media on our new truck ranges and future technologies,” said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. “Our line-up at this year’s IAA will show the global strength of the Volvo Group and will demonstrate our commitment to reaching zero emissions and zero accidents – both are equally important for the success of our customers.”

Highlighting Volvo’s Innovations

Among the featured trucks, the new Volvo FM Low Entry will be showcased as Volvo’s first truck developed exclusively with a battery-electric powertrain, designed for improved driver visibility in busy city environments. The iconic Volvo FH16 Aero will also be on display, equipped with the all-new D17 17-liter engine, which enhances power while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. This model is certified for HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and biodiesel B100.

Volvo Trucks will also unveil its upcoming e-axle technology, designed for next-generation battery-electric and fuel cell electric trucks. This innovation aims to extend electric range and optimize drivability. Additionally, Volvo will present its new Camera Monitor System (CMS), which improves aerodynamics for fuel savings and enhances safety through better visibility.

The Future of Hydrogen and Electric Powertrains

With five years of experience in electric trucks operating in 47 countries, Volvo is now focusing on hydrogen as the next step in powertrain development. Both hydrogen fuel cell applications and hydrogen combustion engines are in development, targeting a future-proof truck range for global markets. These hydrogen-based technologies are expected to be available to customers towards the end of the decade.

Comprehensive Display at IAA 2024

Volvo’s presence at IAA 2024 will feature eight trucks, including:

  • Volvo FH Aero Electric 4×2 with Camera Monitor System (CMS)
  • Volvo FH16 Aero 4×2 with HVO-fuel, XXL cab, and CMS
  • Volvo FMX Electric 6×4 with a 3-way tipper
  • Volvo FM Low Entry 6×2 with skip loader
  • Volvo FM Gas-powered 4×2 with CMS
  • Volvo FE Electric 4×2 with skip loader
  • Volvo VNL 860 with full specification

In addition to showcasing truck models, Volvo will also present new technologies and services, including charging solutions for battery-electric trucks. Visitors can find Volvo Trucks in Hall 21, booth B01, with a selection of trucks available for test drives on the IAA test track. The schedule for Volvo Trucks’ press conference will be announced later.
