The three BMW M Motorsport teams in automotive gaming – BS+COMPETITION, MOUZ, and Redline – are intensively preparing for the 2024 Esports World Cup (EWC), scheduled to take place from 22nd to 25th August in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A crucial component of their preparation was a joint training week that brought the teams together for a unique blend of physical and mental conditioning.
The drivers embarked on an exhilarating journey starting from the BMW M Driving Experience in Maisach, Germany.
They hit the road in five BMW M4 Competition Coupés, making their way to Formula Medicine in Viareggio, Italy. This road trip not only provided a thrilling driving experience but also strengthened team spirit, creating unforgettable moments.
Upon arrival in Viareggio, the drivers participated in an intensive training programme at Formula Medicine under the expert guidance of sports doctor Dr. Riccardo Ceccarelli. The programme focused on enhancing both their mental and physical fitness, crucial elements for peak performance in the upcoming competition.
During the ESL R1 online season, which featured six racing events, the drivers secured their spots in the EWC, competing for a total prize pool of 500,000 US dollars. The competition will be held on the “Rennsport” simulation platform. Notably, BMW M Team Redline topped the online season’s team standings with 337 points, while BMW M Team MOUZ driver Maximilian Benecke (GER) enters the EWC as the reigning champion.
The preparation week kicked off with the BMW M Driving Experience in Maisach, combining real driving skills and the innovative BMW M Mixed Reality Experience. Drivers honed their abilities behind the wheel of BMW M4 Competition Coupés, guided by professional instructors. Following this hands-on experience, the teams embarked on a road trip to Italy, further solidifying their camaraderie.
In Viareggio, the drivers’ training at Formula Medicine encompassed a variety of mental and physical exercises. The Mental Economy Gym sessions aimed to enhance neural efficiency, reducing energy expenditure to improve performance. Afternoons were dedicated to rotating through different training stations, which included psychophysical training, nutritional advice, and simulated racing sessions where brain and heart rates were monitored. The experts at Formula Medicine also replicated the stress of competing on a large stage at live events.
Additional activities such as yoga on the beach, kayaking, and indoor challenges rounded out the programme, further building team cohesion and ensuring the drivers are in peak condition for the EWC.
With their rigorous preparation and strengthened team dynamics, the BMW M Motorsport teams are poised to make a significant impact at the 2024 Esports World Cup.
