Thermo King and ZF agree long term deal

ZF's new SCALAR Fleet Orchestration Platform will now be integrated into Thermo King's trailer telematic solutions as part of agreement

Thermo King, a prominent player in transport temperature control solutions and a subsidiary of Trane Technologies, has entered a long-term supply agreement with ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions.

This partnership aims to combine the strengths of both companies to provide an all-encompassing telematics solution that covers comprehensive refrigerated trailer data within a single platform.

Isil Dedeoglu, Vice President for Services and Aftermarket at Thermo King Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), expressed the company’s commitment to delivering unique value to customers through collaborations with industry experts.

Dedeoglu stated: “The collaboration with a key industry player like ZF will allow Thermo King to become a one-stop solution provider for customers looking to maximize their operational efficiency by digitising their trailer fleet. This cooperation will give our customers even easier and deeper insight into their fleets and the information they need to further improve their uptime and reliability.”

Hjalmar Van Raemdonck, Head of Digital Systems Solutions at ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions division, expressed his delight at Thermo King’s decision to utilize ZF technology to enhance its offerings. He emphasized the importance of trusted industry collaborations, including the one with Thermo King, in creating scalable value for a broader range of customers, aligning with ZF’s strategy, especially regarding their fleet orchestration platform, SCALAR.

The collaborative effort between Thermo King and ZF will enable customers to remotely monitor both Dry and Refrigerated fleets equipped with Thermo King refrigeration units, consolidating all integrated trailer data through the Thermo King TracKing™ platform.

A noteworthy aspect of this partnership is the integration of ZF’s new SCALAR Fleet Orchestration Platform into Thermo King’s trailer telematic solutions. SCALAR will facilitate the importation of data from ZF and other trailer-EBS systems, as well as tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS). This innovation will empower Thermo King TracKing customers to harness multi-brand EBS, odometer, axle-load, and TPMS data, thereby enhancing their trailer uptime, maintenance, and fuel efficiency. The comprehensive information accessible through TracKing™ will enable customers to operate more efficiently, avoid unscheduled downtime, reduce fuel consumption, and contribute to sustainable transport practices.

Furthermore, this digital solution will aid fleets in complying with Regulation No 141 of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations (UN/ECE), which mandates the inclusion of TPMS in all new registered trailers starting from July 2024. Thermo King’s collaboration with ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions marks a significant step forward in the integration of cutting-edge technology to optimize the efficiency and sustainability of the road transportation industry.
