BMW AGMC, in collaboration with Dubai Autodrome, a subsidiary of Union Properties, has unveiled 20 new Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at the Dubai Autodrome.
This installation marks the UAE’s first fully integrated multipurpose motorsport and entertainment facility equipped with such facilities.
Specifically designed to support the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in the UAE, these stations cater to BMW’s e-mobility fleet, including the advanced electric models BMW iX, iX1, BMW i7, and the BMW iX5 Hydrogen.
These vehicles have been serving VIP guests and officials during the summit, reinforcing BMW’s role as the official VIP E-mobility provider for COP28.
Post-COP28, BMW AGMC customers will continue to have access to these charging stations. This initiative is part of a broader effort by BMW AGMC, the exclusive importer for BMW Group in Dubai, Sharjah, and the Northern Emirates, to promote sustainable mobility. The stations are powered by Dubai Autodrome’s 2.8 MWp solar power project, reflecting a commitment to eco-friendly energy sources.
Ayhan Olcer, Managing Director of Albatha Automotive Group – the parent company of AGMC – emphasised the project’s significance in transitioning to emission-free mobility in the UAE. He noted that this initiative aligns with their vision for sustainability and commitment to eco-conscious transportation solutions.
BMW’s participation in climate events and its dedication to reducing CO2 emissions resonate with its goal to achieve complete climate neutrality by 2050. This aligns with the Paris Climate Agreement’s aim to keep global warming under the 1.5°C threshold.
Additionally, these new chargers at Dubai Autodrome contribute to BMW AGMC’s Destination Chargers project, launched in 2023. This project aims to establish an extensive network of EV chargers across the UAE, having already installed over 100 EV chargers this year.
Faisal Al Sahlawi, General Manager of Dubai Autodrome, expressed pride in collaborating with BMW AGMC to promote sustainable mobility infrastructure. He highlighted how the charging stations elevate Dubai Autodrome’s profile as a world-class motorsport facility that also supports sustainability in the automotive industry.
The BMW Group, aiming to release around 10 million fully-electric vehicles globally by 2030, is advancing electrification as part of its holistic approach to sustainability across its entire value chain. The company is also actively involved in developing charging infrastructure, a testament to which is the Dubai Autodrome installation.
