BUTEC agrees to acquire all 17 companies of Engie Group operating in Africa

Acquisition will allow Dubai-based services group to expand across the continent with more than 1,500 employees operating across 15 countries

BUTEC Group, the Dubai-based construction and services group, has announced the signing of an agreement to acquire all 17 companies of the ENGIE Group in Africa, operating in the fields of energy efficiency, maintenance, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, green mobility, multi-technical maintenance, as well as facility management.

In a statement, BUTEC said that these services are undertaken in more than 15 countries across Africa, by more than 1,500 employees. They are mainly carried out by ENGIE Services Maroc in North Africa, ENGIE Services Côte d’Ivoire (Tieri), Afric Power and ENGIE Burkina Faso in Western Africa, and ENGIE Ampair/Thermaire in Southern Africa.

Ziad Younes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BUTEC Group commented: “The acquisition of the “Energy Services” businesses of ENGIE Group in Africa aligns perfectly with the growth strategy of BUTEC Group, by allowing us to expand geographically in the continent, a promising market in which BUTEC is already present, and by combining the know-how and business expertise of the existing teams that will complement the “Energy Services” activities of the Group.

“We are very confident that the teams of the acquired companies will rapidly integrate the BUTEC family and fit in perfectly with our strong corporate culture, built over a long history of successes shared by the Group, its shareholders, employees and clients,” he added.

Last year, BUTEC announced a joint venture with the Dubai Government-owned construction giant ALEC, which will see the new entity target the UAE’s utilities, industrial and environmental sector-based projects.
