Changan Automobile Invests AED 10.07 Billion in Flying Car Development

Changan aims to lead the new wave of mobility, offering futuristic solutions that blend advanced technologies with sustainable transportation

Changan Automobile has announced an initiative to revolutionise the future of transportation by investing AED 10.07 billion in the research and development of flying cars and electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The venture is part of a newly signed partnership with EHang Holdings Ltd., a global leader in Urban Air Mobility (UAM) technology.

The collaboration between Changan and EHang aims to create innovative solutions in the low-altitude economy, which includes activities such as drone delivery and other airspace operations below 1,000 metres. The low-altitude economy is projected to reach a value of USD 1 trillion in China by 2030, providing vast opportunities for economic growth and technological advancement.

“In the next five years, Changan will invest over AED 10.07 billion to expedite the development of flying cars,” said Zhu Huarong, Chairman of Changan Automobile. “Over the next decade, we plan to invest more than AED 50.33 billion to explore comprehensive transportation solutions across land, sea, air, and humanoid robots.”

This initiative aligns with Changan’s vision to transform into an intelligent low-carbon mobility technology company, driving innovation in intelligent digital technologies.

Global Science and Art Center: A Hub for Innovation

The announcement was made during the inauguration of Changan’s Global Science and Art Center, a part of its Global R&D Center in Chongqing. The center will focus on cutting-edge research in science, technology, and design. Over the next decade, Changan plans to invest AED 15.10 billion into this center, assembling a team of over 3,000 experts to explore fields such as artificial intelligence, information technology, and customer experience innovations.

Changan Automobile’s commitment to research and development is evident in its extensive global R&D network, which comprises 16 technology research and product development centres, 17 technology companies, and a team of over 18,000 specialists from 31 countries.

By partnering with EHang, Changan aims to lead the next wave of transportation innovation, offering futuristic solutions that blend advanced technologies with sustainable mobility.
