Jordan phosphate miner expands Terex Trucks fleet

Jordan’s largest phosphate mining contractor, Comedat, has added 50 Terex Trucks rigid dump trucks to its fleet for work in the north and south of the country.

The nearly five-decade-old company has been using Terex Trucks haulers since 1970, with its 120-strong collection being one of the largest fleets of the brand’s machines in the world. The fleet consists of a mixture of Terex Trucks’ 100t capacity TR100 and its smaller TR60, said a statement from the heavy hauler manufacturer.

“Terex Trucks delivers excellent performing machines,” said Sameh Dababneh, CEO of the family-owned Comedat. “From experience, no matter how hard I push the trucks they keep on going, so when it came to expanding my fleet there was only one company I could look to.”

The trucks are required to work for Comedat 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year. The trucks also descend 56m below ground level to load the phosphate, which they then carry out of the mine.

“We’ve been with Terex Trucks for years and we’re still as happy as we were with the trucks on the day we first became customers,” Dababneh said. “The trucks are simple, reliable and durable. It’s a tough running vehicle so it’s very forgiving and works with very basic maintenance.”

Phosphate is generally consumed as fertiliser and its annual demand is growing almost twice as fast as the human population. Jordan is the fifth largest producer of phosphates globally and has an estimated 1.3 billion tonnes of reserves.
