The vehicle fleet being officially used during the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games is an all-Nissan one that was delivered to the Games organising committee by the local arm of the Japanese manufacturer.
According to a statement by Nissan, the fleet comprises 4,200 Nissan vehicles comprising various models to meet the many day-to-day mobility and transportation needs during the Games. It features cars and trucks of various categories and sizes to ensure comfort and best use across many different activities. The vehicles are being used for transporting thousands of athletes, delegation members, and guests, for supporting operational activities and also for supporting some competitions. The fleet is being driven by a group of volunteers selected by the Organising Committee.
Among the models are more than 200 of the Nissan Kicks crossover, which is making its global debut at the event. The car is the official vehicle of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games and is being used in the Games before it reaches Nissans showrooms in Brazil later this month. Besides Kicks, the fleet includes the Nissan March, Versa, Sentra, Altima and the mid-size truck Frontier.
According to Nissan, the official delivery ceremony for the fleet was held at Rio de Janeiros Sambadrome, one of the citys landmarks and the venue which will host archery events during the Games. Attending the ceremony were Francois Dossa, President of Nissan Brazil, and Sidney Levy, Rio 2016 Organising Committees general director. Brazilian basketball legend, former player Hortencia Marcari, who is Team Nissans mentor, was invited to represent the Brazilian athletes.
Over the past several years, we have worked very closely with the Rio 2016 Organising Committee on a variety of activities, but the fleet delivery is an important moment for us because this directly involves our vehicles, most of which were produced in Brazil. We know how important it is to ensure the mobility of the athletes and the Olympic family with comfort, agility and low carbon emissions, since all our passenger cars currently manufactured in the country have a grade A in energy efficiency, the best possible score, said Francois Dossa, president of Nissan Brazil.
Nissan Brazil is an official sponsor of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It also sponsored the Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relays. The Nissan-sponsored Brazilian Olympic team includes a number of athletes from Team Nissan – a project comprising 31 Brazilian athletes and para-athletes that the company created in 2012.
