Renault Trucks expands operations in Iraq

Renault Trucks has announced Sunflower General Trading Company, one of the main business partners of the State Company for Automotive Industry (SCAI), as its new exclusive distributor in Iraq.

The appointment follows the opening of a Renault Trucks production plant for its C, K and D ranges in Iraq in 2013, and is part of the French manufacturer’s efforts to expand its presence in the country’s heavy-duty sector.

A new 1,000sqm service centre and workshop in Baghdad is already under construction, Renault Trucks Middle East said in a statement. It is set to open for business in the first quarter of 2016 and will serve existing customers in Iraq as well as new Renault Trucks vehicles imported by Sunflower. There are currently around 2,500 Renault Trucks vehicles in central and southern Iraq.

“Renault Trucks is already an established and trusted brand in Iraq‎ and our exclusive partnership with Sunflower Company will allow us to further strengthen our position in this developing market,” said Bernard Amiel, business team director of Renault Trucks Iraq.

“Our goal is to continue improving the service and transport solutions that we offer our Iraqi customers and ensure that they receive the best possible after sales support.”

The new showroom will also help Renault Trucks and Sunflower General Trading Company tap into a growing aftersales market, the statement said.
