TIER proves micromobility can be a key player at FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar

TIER Mobility provided e-scooters for mobility staff members at the Arab Cup 2021 earlier this month

A tournament organised as a dress rehearsal for the FIFA World Cup 2022 has proven that micromobility can play a key role when it begins next year, according to the organisers and TIER, one of Europe’s leading shared micro-mobility providers.

The German company supplied this year’s FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021 with the brand’s environmentally-friendly, greener transportation alternative for staff to seamlessly move around the event with zero carbon emissions.

This comes as part of the agreement TIER has with the Supreme Committee to support the event’s goals of having a low impact on the environment.

The Arab Cup matches took place in six World Cup stadiums across the country, including Al Bayt, Al Thumama, Ahmad Bin Ali, Education City, Stadium 974, and Al Janoub. The decision to provide these industry-leading e-scooters at the event comes in line with Qatar’s vision to organise a carbon-neutral and sustainable World Cup.

The launch of the e-scooters in Qatar, in March 2021 comes in accordance with the country’s goal to protect the environment by achieving a 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. TIER is the first micro-mobility provider to be fully climate-neutral, setting the industry standards in sustainability and tech innovation, assisting Qatar with a positive step towards reaching its carbon emissions target.

In parallel to Qatar’s climate change action plan, the country is set to deliver the first Sustainability Strategy for a carbon-neutral FIFA World Cup in the history of the event, which is set to take place in 2022. These aims are in line with TIER’s overall goal and mission to lead the way towards seamless, sustainable, safe and accessible mobility for every person.

Arshad Hussain, mobility senior manager, of the Supreme Committee, commented: “TIER providing their e-scooters at the FIFA Arab Cup is in perfect alignment with our vision to organise a carbon-neutral World Cup, it is just the beginning in setting the standard for our next event, which will be the first-ever carbon-neutral FIFA World Cup. We are extremely pleased that every decision we choose is aligned to build a sustainable and lasting legacy.”

“We are pleased to have been able to provide our e-scooters to last-mile staff members at the Arab Cup event,” said Amir Melad, general manager of TIER. “We ensure TIER’s position remains an innovation leader and the most sustainable and safest operator in the industry.”
