The United Parcel Service (UPS) has been appointed as the official logistics partner for the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. Malaysia will be among over 190 nations and organisations taking part in Expo 2020 Dubai themed ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ which will take place from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022.
According to the firms, the partnership will see UPS implement its full suite of logistics services to the pavilion, which will provide a unique platform to showcase Malaysia’s rich cultural and biological diversity and sustainable development efforts on the world stage throughout the six-month event.
As official logistics partner for Expo 2020 Dubai, UPS has been instrumental in assisting with the construction of some of the most aspirational feats of architectural design in Expo history, building on an already established legacy of delivering world class logistics to some of the biggest and most complex events ever staged, including the 2012 London Olympics. Malaysia’s participation in the Expo is led by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation with MGTC as the implementing agency.
“A large number of items will need to be transported to Dubai before the Expo begins and shipped back to Malaysia when the event ends,” commented MGTC Chief Executive Officer Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor. “It is therefore critical to protect the integrity of the shipped items throughout this whole period. As an established and trusted logistics company, we are confident that UPS will provide us with peace of mind.”
“We are honoured to be the official logistics partner for the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, which is another example of how UPS is moving the world forward by delivering what matters,” added Matt Parkey, president of South Asia for UPS. “We are excited to help Malaysia showcase its unique cultural identity on the world stage. Over the last 30 years, in addition to providing support for a number of landmark global events, including Expo 2020 Dubai itself, UPS has continued to expand the range of services and solutions that help Malaysian businesses unlock new opportunities globally and we look forward to continuing to do so.”
“Under our arrangement, UPS has extended preferential rates and special packages to the Malaysia Pavilion and participants of its programmes, who will include both government and business delegates,” explained Bahar. “Items that UPS will ship include retail and merchandise items, crafts, costumes and props, musical instruments, souvenirs as well as personal items of the Malaysia Pavilion team and cultural troupe who will be stationed in Dubai for seven months.”
