Yango rolls out robot deliveries at Sobha Hartland

Designed for last-mile deliveries within a two-kilometre radius, robots start deliveries for food retailer ROOTS in under 30 minutes

Yango Group and food-tech and retail innovator ROOTS have introduced autonomous robots for grocery deliveries in Dubai’s Sobha Hartland.

This groundbreaking service commences today, following approval from Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the regulatory body overseeing transportation technologies within the emirate.

Designed for last-mile deliveries within a two-kilometre radius, these advanced robots complete deliveries in under 30 minutes. Equipped with high-precision maps and advanced neural networks, the robots can independently plan efficient routes, navigate obstacles, recognize traffic signals, and safely interact with pedestrians. Their robust six-wheel suspension enables them to easily climb curbs up to 10 centimeters high.

The robots feature a cargo compartment with a 60-litre capacity, ideal for carrying groceries including dairy products, fresh produce, and pre-packed meals, all maintained at optimal temperatures.

Florian Jansen, Founder of ROOTS, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative: “This partnership with Yango Group introduces a transformative retail delivery experience to Sobha Hartland. It’s an exciting development that enhances convenience for our customers while supporting sustainability goals through greener delivery methods.”

Customers can easily utilize this innovative delivery service by placing their orders on the ROOTS website at go-roots.ae and selecting robot delivery at checkout. Upon delivery, customers receive a WhatsApp notification alerting them of their order’s arrival.

Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of Dubai’s Public Transport Agency, emphasized the initiative’s alignment with Dubai’s Autonomous Transportation Strategy: “Introducing these autonomous robots supports our strategic goal of converting 25% of all transport to autonomous technology by 2030, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions and enhancing urban life.”

Islam Abdul Karim, Regional Head of Yango Group Middle East, commented: “We’re delighted to collaborate with ROOTS in pioneering autonomous delivery solutions in Dubai. Our goal is to expand this technology throughout the emirate, fostering sustainable, efficient, and customer-friendly logistics.”

Yango Group plans further expansion of its autonomous technology in Dubai and recently launched Yango Tech, a B2B AI ecosystem providing innovative solutions designed to streamline operations, reduce costs, and optimize last-mile logistics.
