Kia shows off new PV5 exterior ahead of world premiere

Further details on vehicle interiors and product offerings are scheduled for release during 2025 Kia EV Day event in Tarragona, Spain

Kia Corporation has revealed the exterior design of its PV5 Passenger and Cargo models, marking the brand’s first dedicated Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) offerings. The unveiling comes ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 Kia EV Day event in Tarragona, Spain later this month.

Previewed previously by the Concept PV5 at CES 2024, the mid-sized PV5 debuts under Kia’s new global PBV business strategy. Designed to transform conventional ideas of space and mobility, the PV5 leverages Kia’s leading-edge EV technology and innovative modularity to provide unmatched flexibility and customization for a diverse customer base.

The Passenger version of the PV5 features a refined geometric profile with a contemporary edge. A large window area—accentuated by striking black graphic glass surrounds—ensures excellent visibility and a modern aesthetic. Robust black geometric wheel arch claddings and rocker panels add a rugged, off-road character, seamlessly connecting the high-tech upper cabin with the purposeful lower body. At the front, bold signature lighting and sleek black accents on the main headlight units elevate the model’s futuristic appeal, while a distinct parting line enhances its dynamic silhouette.

The rear design, highlighted by an elegantly chamfered D-pillar and a single lift-up tailgate door, emphasizes both functionality and visual continuity.

While sharing the overarching geometric language, the PV5 Cargo model adopts a boxier profile optimised for space efficiency, says Kia. Clean lines and a clear, ordered aesthetic elevate the design well beyond traditional light commercial vehicles. Key to the Cargo model’s practicality are its twin side-opening tailgate doors, which facilitate easy loading and unloading, providing users with a customizable experience tailored to their operational needs.

Kia’s new design initiative is driven by its “Opposites United” philosophy, which unifies distinct design elements into a coherent, bold, and capable identity. “While the PV5 is offered in three different body styles to provide innovative solutions for a diverse range of customer needs, they all embody the same consistent design values,” stated Karim Habib, Head of Kia Global Design. “Each model confidently expresses a solid, bold, futuristic character and a highly capable attitude.”

The full scope of Kia’s PBV business strategy, along with additional derivative models and conversion options, will be unveiled at the upcoming 2025 Kia EV Day event. Further details on vehicle interiors and product offerings are scheduled for release on February 27, with the event video set to debut on the Kia Worldwide YouTube channel in March.
