Qatar Aviation Services (QAS), in partnership with MATAR and Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), has commenced trials of autonomous vehicles at Hamad International Airport (DOH). The initiative marks a significant milestone in the region, integrating cutting-edge self-driving technology into airside operations.
The proof-of-concept trials, which began on February 16, include an autonomous staff bus and a baggage tractor equipped with advanced GPS, artificial intelligence, and lidar-based sensors. Designed to operate 24/7 under varying weather conditions, these vehicles aim to enhance airport efficiency and safety while reducing manual intervention.
Hamad Ali Al Khater, Chief Operating Officer at Hamad International Airport, highlighted the airport’s commitment to innovation. “Our airport is proud to lead the way by trialling autonomous vehicles. This initiative reflects our dedication to enhancing efficiency, safety, and sustainability. We are excited to lead the way into a future where technology and mobility seamlessly converge.”
