600 tonnes per day recycling plant inaugurated in Ras Al Khaimah

The plant has a capacity of 600 tonnes per day and is billed as the largest of its kind in the country

UAE authorities have opened a new waste sorting and recycling plant in Ras Al Khaimah. The plant has a capacity of 600 tonnes per day and is billed as the largest of its kind in the country.

The Public Services Department developed the project in line with the UAE’s national objectives of converting 75% of landfill waste by 2020.

The plant was inaugurated by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zayoudi in the presence of Engineer Ahmed Mohammed Al Hammadi, the director general of the Public Services Department. Other executive directors of agencies and departments and sections in the Ras Al Khaimah Department were also present.

Al Hammadi said the high amount of waste recycled this year confirms the success of the plans of the Ras Al Khaimah Waste Management Authority. He also said that the new plant will help increase the volume of recycled materials by 20%, while reducing the amount of waste transferred to landfills.

The plant is said to symbolise the adoption of sustainable solutions on a large scale, and will serve the emirate in particular and the state in general, a statement said.
