Terra Tech Ltd., a pioneering startup specialising in battery-swapping technology, has launched Abu Dhabi’s first electric motorbike battery-swapping station, with ADNOC Distribution serving as a strategic partner to support the nation’s sustainable transport transition.
The new facility, positioned within one of ADNOC Distribution’s flagship service stations, is the first of its kind in the capital and is designed to serve the growing fleet of battery-powered delivery motorbikes operating across Abu Dhabi.
By enabling riders to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones in seconds, the system dramatically reduces downtime and enhances operational efficiency — a critical benefit for last-mile delivery operators. It also supports lower emissions, contributing directly to the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 and Abu Dhabi Mobility’s 2040 clean transport targets.
“Expanding into Abu Dhabi is a pivotal step in Terra Tech’s journey to build future-ready electric mobility infrastructure across the UAE,” Husam Zammar, Founder, Terra Tech Ltd.
The partnership underscores the growing integration between energy providers and new mobility innovators, with ADNOC Distribution acting as an enabler for emerging electric transport infrastructure. By leveraging ADNOC’s extensive service station network, Terra Tech Ltd. gains access to high-visibility and accessible urban locations, ensuring battery-swapping becomes a convenient and scalable solution for delivery riders and fleet operators alike.
Zammar noted that ADNOC Distribution’s established footprint across the UAE provides “a powerful platform to reach riders where they are and accelerate the adoption of clean mobility in the capital.”
Battery-swapping offers a faster and more practical alternative to plug-in charging — especially for commercial two-wheeler fleets where time and range are operational constraints. The technology also reduces congestion at charging points, lowers lifecycle emissions, and aligns with the UAE’s broader shift toward multi-modal urban mobility.
The launch aligns with Abu Dhabi Mobility’s ambition for 50% of vehicles to be electric by 2040, complementing the emirate’s ongoing push to integrate EVs and electric two-wheelers into logistics, delivery, and public transport sectors.
Through ADNOC Distribution’s infrastructure, Terra Tech Ltd. plans to expand its network of battery-swapping stations across the UAE, offering fleet operators and delivery companies a smarter, faster, and greener alternative to conventional refuelling.“ADNOC Distribution’s extensive network and trusted brand presence provide a strong foundation for scaling battery-swapping technology,” Zammar added. “Together, we’re enabling the next chapter of clean mobility in Abu Dhabi.”
Building Infrastructure for the Future
The launch also reflects ADNOC Distribution’s evolving role as an energy transition catalyst, expanding beyond traditional fuel offerings to support electric mobility solutions across its nationwide network. The integration of battery-swapping facilities into ADNOC stations exemplifies how established energy infrastructure can adapt to new technologies: ensuring accessibility and convenience for businesses, riders, and consumers.
