Ajman government has announced that it has begun the construction of a first-of-its-kind green building in the emirate. The new construction has been made possible by a $4.05 million investment and is in line with the green building system standards of Ajman, according to a statement on the UAE’s official news portal WAM.
Director-General of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman, Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Nuaimi inaugurated the pouring of the green concrete of its central laboratory building, which will include sunlight-reflecting glass to insulate it and save electricity. It also includes thermal bricks that will be examined in the laboratory before they are used.
While inspecting the project, Al Nuaimi stressed that the department aims to establish an ideal and healthy building that is made from 90% green concrete, which will help preserve the environment and the health and safety of the individuals. He was accompanied by Dr Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Development Sector, and individuals responsible for organising the project.
He added that environmentally-friendly materials, such as recycled materials and the green concrete will enhance the sustainability of the building by an average of 20 years. This will help to decrease carbon dioxide emissions by 80%, preserve air quality and decrease pollution, Al Nuaimi said, while also explaining that the building will employ energy-saving lighting and VRF air conditioning systems to save electricity by 40% compared to regular air conditioning systems. The building will be equipped with a solar panel system and a water preservation system.
The construction of the building is part of the departments vision to create a sustainable environment and a modern structure for building the future of Ajman.
