Hala, Dubai’s leading e-hailing taxi service, has announced the launch of Hala EV, a major sustainability initiative aimed at transforming urban mobility. As part of this effort, Hala is introducing four new electric vehicle (EV) models — BYD, Skywell, GAC Emkoo, and Tesla — into its fleet, bringing the total number of EV taxis to nearly 500.
The launch of Hala EV marks the beginning of a large-scale effort to promote sustainable transport solutions in line with Dubai’s vision for a greener future. The initiative aligns with the Emirate’s goal for all taxis to be hybrid or hydrogen-powered by 2027. Already, over 90% of Hala’s 13,000-strong fleet consists of hybrid vehicles, positioning the company at the forefront of eco-friendly transportation in the region.
Hala’s expansion into EVs is part of its long-term commitment to reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency. Alongside the introduction of electric taxis, Hala is leveraging cutting-edge technology, such as High-Density Locations (HDL), to optimise taxi availability and enhance fuel efficiency. By focusing on high-demand areas, the company ensures that passengers experience reduced wait times while minimising environmental impact.
“The launch of the Hala EV initiative reinforces our role as a key player in Dubai’s sustainability vision while continuing to provide a seamless and reliable transport solution for our customers,” commented Khaled Nuseibeh, Chief Executive Officer at Hala.
“Every ride in a Hala EV is a step towards a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable city.”
Hala EVs will be available for rides in select high-demand locations across Dubai, including Dubai Marina, JLT, JBR, Palm Jumeirah, Media City, Al Barsha (1, 2, and 3), Barsha Heights, Knowledge Village, Al Sufouh, and Blue Waters Dubai. The expanded rollout will provide residents and visitors with an eco-friendly and convenient way to travel across Dubai’s busiest districts.
Seamless Access to Hala EV
Passengers can book a Hala EV through the Careem app, selecting the Hala EV option at no additional cost. With increasing demand for sustainable transport, Hala plans to expand the availability of electric taxis to more locations across the city.
Hala’s commitment to sustainability is a core component of its mission to enhance Dubai’s transportation landscape. Since its launch in 2019 as a joint venture between Careem and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Hala has consistently innovated to improve mobility solutions. With over 24,000 captains operating 13,000 cars, Hala continues to play a vital role in reshaping Dubai’s transport sector.
