Volvo Trucks is stepping up its electric ambitions with a new generation of heavy-duty vehicles, headlined by a long-haul model capable of travelling up to 700km on a single charge. The move sets a new benchmark for performance and practicality in the electric truck sector.
The company, already a major player in electric trucking, has unveiled two key developments. The first is the FH Aero Electric with extended range, designed for long-distance haulage and capable of covering up to 700km between charges. The second is an updated range of FH, FM and FMX Electric trucks, offering improved flexibility, productivity and comfort, with ranges of up to 470km.
“We’re really sharpening our offering here. We are broadening it and making electric solutions possible for an even wider range of transport assignments, and also adding a cutting edge electric truck with a range of up to 700 km. This means we can fully match the business needs of our customers. It has never been easier to replace diesel trucks with electric ones,” says Roger Alm, President Volvo Trucks.

“We stand firm in our belief that electric vehicles will deliver a large part of the world’s truck transport in the future. With the amazing performance of all our new trucks, it’s easy to see why.”
At the centre of the long-haul model is a new e-axle driveline, which integrates motors and transmission into the rear axle. This frees up space for additional batteries, enabling the extended range. The truck supports the Megawatt Charging System (MCS), allowing its eight batteries to be charged from 20% to 80% in around 50 minutes, roughly the duration of a mandated rest period for EU drivers.
“This long-haul electric truck is the best in the industry. It offers an outstanding range in combination with high payload, fast charging and great riding comfort. With this truck, our customers can drive the really long distances and throughout an entire working day with the same productivity as diesel trucks,” says Alm.

The next-generation FH, FM and FMX Electric trucks are built around a new driveline engineered for versatility. An integrated gearbox power take-off enables the vehicle to operate auxiliary equipment – such as mixers or refuse units – while driving, without the need for additional motors. These models can travel up to 470km and recharge from 20% to 80% in approximately 65 minutes.
“The next-generation FH, FM and FMX Electric are packed with new, smart functions, they offer great driver comfort and make zero tailpipe emissions transport available for very wide range of transport assignments,” says Alm.
Across the new line-up, Volvo has introduced optimised gearboxes paired with dual motors, delivering smoother performance, reduced noise and less vibration. The FH, FM and FMX Electric models feature an eight-speed transmission, while the FH Aero Electric uses a six-speed version.

The FH Aero Electric is aimed at long-haul and intercity operations, with a gross combination weight of up to 48 tonnes and payloads reaching 28 tonnes. Meanwhile, the FH, FM and FMX Electric range is designed for diverse applications including construction, regional distribution and urban logistics, with capacities up to 65 tonnes.
The rollout of the new trucks will begin in 2026, as Volvo continues its push towards fossil-free transport. The company’s long-term strategy combines battery-electric technology with fuel cells and renewable fuel-powered combustion engines, supporting its ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.
While real-world range will depend on factors such as weather, load and driving conditions, Volvo’s latest launch underscores its intent to make electric trucks a viable, scalable alternative to diesel across a growing range of applications.
