Sharjah welcomes its first fleet of electric buses from King Long into operation

King Long’s electric buses are a key part of a strategy to enhance sustainable public transportation, says SRTA's Mohammed Al Jarwan

King Long, the Chinese bus and coach manufacturer exclusively represented by the Motors division of Al Ghurair Mobility in the UAE, has launched the first fleet of electric buses in Sharjah.

This 20-vehicle deal makes King Long the first Chinese automotive brand to operate a fully functional electric city bus fleet in the Emirate’s public transport sector.

The initiative is in line with Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority’s (SRTA) commitment to advancing eco-friendly mobility solutions in the UAE.

The newly launched King Long electric vehicle (EV) fleet includes the C12E Intercity Coach and the PEV9 City Bus, both designed with a driving range of up to 450 km on a full charge.

Currently, 10 electric buses are in operation on Sharjah’s roads, with an additional 10 buses set to be deployed by the second half of 2025. This fleet expansion aligns with broader plans to scale up sustainable public transportation in the UAE.

“In line with the UAE’s initiative to reduce carbon emissions through clean energy and green mobility, RTA Sharjah has partnered with leading EV manufacturers,” said Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Jarwan, Director of Transportation Affairs at Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA). “King Long’s electric buses are a key part of our strategy to enhance sustainable public transportation across the Emirate.”

The King Long electric buses integrate cutting-edge smart technologies to provide a zero-emission, efficient, and luxurious commuting experience. Equipped with an intelligent battery temperature monitoring system, the buses adhere to European safety standards, ensuring optimal performance in the UAE’s extreme weather conditions. Their introduction further reinforces Sharjah’s commitment to the Climate Neutrality 2050 Initiative and the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy.

Malik Mohammad Tariq, Vice President of Dealership at Al Ghurair Mobility, emphasized the strategic significance of the move: “The delivery of King Long’s electric buses to SRTA represents a pivotal step in promoting sustainability through innovative mobility solutions. This initiative underscores King Long’s dedication to supporting Sharjah’s green mobility goals and fostering environmental responsibility across the UAE. At Al Ghurair Mobility, we are committed to pioneering smart transportation solutions and contributing to the UAE’s forward-thinking vision for a cleaner future.”

As King Long’s exclusive distributor in the UAE, Al Ghurair Mobility plays an active role in advancing eco-friendly transport. In Q4 2024, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Emirates Transport to accelerate the adoption of electric and hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles. Additionally, as a member of UITP, the global association for public transportation, Al Ghurair Mobility continues to champion sustainable urban mobility initiatives worldwide.

With this groundbreaking launch, Sharjah is taking a significant step towards redefining public transport sustainability. As the UAE continues its transition to greener energy solutions, King Long and Al Ghurair Mobility remain at the forefront, driving the future of eco-friendly mobility in the region.
