Bauma round-up: SAF-HOLLAND shows the benefits of off-road power

SAF-HOLLAND Group focused on the "ideal equipment for trucks and trailers operating under difficult conditions" at Bauma 2019

SAF-HOLLAND Group is focused on the ideal equipment for trucks and trailers operating under difficult conditions at Bauma 2019.

The supplier for commercial vehicle parts presented the hydraulically driven SAF INTRA CD TRAK axle, which is now manufactured as a standard product, as well as robust fifth wheels for construction and terminal vehicles.

In the live demonstrator at Bauma, the SAF INTRA CD TRAK, which was added as a standard product to the range in the middle of 2018, demonstrated how it can push a trailer up a short incline with ease.

“The third trailer axle is equipped with the hydraulic auxiliary drive: It takes over the full axle load, transfers the complete drive moment and reliably moves the trailer forward,” explained the company. “The SAF INTRA CD TRAK shows its strengths in particular on loose ground, when driving up hills and when setting off after tipping – practically at the press of a button, directly from the driver’s cab. The system is designed for trailers in the 9-ton standard range which operate on construction sites and landfills.”

Alexandre Charpiot, VP Sales OEM & Aftermarket Europe at SAF-HOLLAND said the company wanted to use Bauma to communicate the advantages of the driven axle for construction vehicles in a sophisticated environment.

“This was highly successful and we are very happy with the exhibition and its results,” added Charpiot.

The company reported a successful event with its stand well frequented on all exhibition days and many national and international customers visiting to find out “about the high-quality SAF-HOLLAND components for construction vehicles. The exhibition team also generated new contacts, provided interested customers with detailed advice and initiated new business deals.”

Other products on show included rhe lightweight SK-S 36.20 RECOLUBE fifth wheel made from spheroidal graphite cast iron is suitable for imposed loads up to 20 tons. The company claims that the integrated automatic RECOLUBE lubrication pump ensures that the fifth wheels no longer require manual lubrication.

For terminal tractors, SAF-HOLLAND showcased the cast steel FW3510-TR fifth wheel. It says that the product is “ideally adapted to the extreme requirements at port and container terminals, facilitating handling of semi-trailers at ports and in industrial use.”

The SK-HD 38.36 coupling, meanwhile, is specially designed for heavy-duty transports with up to 36 tons imposed load. The robust component is also available as an offroad variant SK-HD 38.36 G with cardanic bearings.

“The fifth wheel with offroad-capability compensates for pitch and roll movements, which is a special advantage for transports on difficult terrain. SAF-HOLLAND also offers the SK-V 36 slider for its heavy-duty couplings, with an overall height of 150 and 190 mm and an imposed load of 36 t. This enables optimum utilisation of the permissible axle loads and individual distribution of the imposed load on the tractor unit,” the company explained.
