MAN Truck & Bus has restarted local CKD (Completely Knocked-Down) vehicle assembly in Algeria through its long-standing partnership with Maghreb Truck Company (MTC), reopening operations at the Blida production facility as part of its wider growth strategy in North Africa.
The move strengthens MAN’s local footprint in one of the region’s key commercial vehicle markets, while allowing the manufacturer to respond more closely to customer requirements through locally assembled trucks and bus chassis. The facility has a production capacity of up to eight vehicles per day, supported by two parallel assembly lines that provide flexibility to manufacture different vehicle configurations depending on market demand.
Production will initially focus on MAN TGS models in 4×2, 6×4 and 8×4 configurations, primarily aimed at long-haul transport applications. MAN is targeting the delivery of approximately 1,500 vehicles annually in Algeria over the medium term.
The partnership builds on more than two decades of cooperation between MAN and MTC, which has served as the German manufacturer’s official and exclusive importer in Algeria since 2003. During periods when production was suspended, MTC continued maintaining the Blida assembly facility, enabling a smoother restart of operations.

MAN’s CKD model
Under MAN’s CKD model, vehicles are transported to target markets as individual components before being assembled locally. The approach supports regional value creation, improves market access and enables manufacturers to adapt products more effectively to local regulations and operating conditions.
MAN operates a global network of CKD facilities, working with partners in markets including Algeria, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Morocco, Kenya and Uzbekistan.
North Africa represents a significant growth opportunity for commercial vehicles, particularly in sectors such as construction, infrastructure and logistics. To support the Algeria restart, MAN has invested in production infrastructure, processes and employee training, ensuring local teams meet global quality standards.
MTC currently employs around 250 people, including a dedicated 50-member team at the Blida CKD facility. Alongside its headquarters and main workshop in Algiers, the company operates service facilities in Oran, Sétif and Laghouat, providing nationwide support for MAN customers across Algeria.
With renewed local production capacity and an established distribution network, MAN aims to build on its historic position as the first European commercial vehicle manufacturer to introduce CKD assembly in Algeria while supporting long-term growth in the North African market.
