Chery UAE showcases TIGGO 9’s top-tier crash test performance

Chery UAE, in collaboration with its local partner AWR Group, has highlighted the exceptional safety credentials of its flagship SUV, the Chery TIGGO 9, following a series of rigorous Euro NCAP-standard crash tests.

The latest full-frontal crash test, conducted at Chery’s cutting-edge safety lab in China, simulated a high-severity collision at 50 km/h into a rigid barrier. The TIGGO 9 demonstrated exceptional structural integrity, with no deformation to the A-pillar or door frames and full activation of its advanced restraint system. Both front and rear test dummies registered zero critical injuries, a strong indicator of the SUV’s occupant protection capabilities.

The SUV has also passed the Euro NCAP’s Mobile Progressive Deformable Barrier (MPDB) and Side Mobile Deformable Barrier tests at 50 and 60 km/h respectively—challenging simulations that evaluate vehicle safety from varying angles. Chery’s strong results across all tests have helped reinforce its five-star safety reputation.

According to Chery UAE, the TIGGO 9’s resilience stems from its “cage-style energy-absorbing space capsule” body design. The structure features 85% high-strength steel, including 21% hot-formed steel with tensile strength up to 1300 MPa. A 1500mm-wide front crash beam—covering nearly 80% of the vehicle’s width—is supported by three energy-absorbing crash boxes, all working in tandem to reduce force transfer in an accident.

“At Chery, safety is a core design principle,” said Zaher Sabbagh, Director of Chery UAE. “We invest in engineering excellence and next-generation safety technologies not just to meet global standards, but to exceed them. These crash test results reaffirm our belief that safety should be the most luxurious feature in any vehicle.”

The brand has also introduced unique innovations including a collision-induced subframe detachment system, designed to increase space for energy absorption during impact, and a bamboo-joint-inspired side protection structure that enhances flexibility and strength across the chassis.

Chery is applying these learnings across its new energy vehicle (NEV) line-up. In the TIGGO 9, the battery management system automatically cuts off power in the event of a crash to prevent leakage, smoke, or fire—reinforcing the brand’s push toward smart and safe electrification.

In a recent promotional event held in Dubai, Chery UAE invited media and influencers to attempt damaging the TIGGO 9’s chassis using heavy-duty drills — without success —offering a dramatic demonstration of the SUV’s formidable construction and crash resilience.
