Nissan AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania) has reinforced its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) strategy across more than 140 markets, highlighting significant local initiatives, cultural programmes, and employee-led activations in its 2024 DEI Report: Celebrating Progress – Powering the Future.
The latest report captures Nissan’s mission to create an inclusive workplace and society across its 19,000-strong AMIEO workforce, while building a brand and business that reflect the diverse communities it serves.
Local Actions, Global Impact
2024 saw the expansion of 19 local DEI councils and nine Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) across the region, empowering voices representing Women’s Networks, Gen Z employees, and Neurodiversity advocates. These networks were instrumental in driving 45+ regional events, including inclusive-language campaigns, DEI webinars, and mentorship programmes that brought colleagues and communities together.
Independent analysis also reflected this progress. A DEI Maturity Assessment by Korn Ferry rated Nissan AMIEO at Level 4: Progressive—just one step below global best practice—while employee survey scores rose by three points since FY2022, signalling growing trust in the company’s inclusive culture.
Among the standout achievements were initiatives such as Blossom in India, which empowers young women to enter the automotive sector, and IGUALES in South Africa, which provides safe spaces for LGBTQ+ employees and their families.
The second annual Nissan Way DEI Awards honoured individuals and teams driving real cultural change, while AMIEO leaders received external recognition, including the Women Automotive Allyship Award and listings in Autocar’s Top 100 Women.
“We’re making measurable progress that’s shaping a culture where inclusion and equity are lived every day, from local councils to region-wide campaigns and training,” said Friederike Kienitz, Senior Vice President, Sustainability, Corporate Affairs and Governance, Nissan AMIEO, and Chairperson of the DEI Council.
“Today, DEI is woven into our product design, our communications, and the way we connect with customers and communities – setting a strong foundation for the journey ahead.”
Looking ahead to FY2025, Nissan AMIEO plans to expand pathways for under-represented groups, nurture future leaders, and deepen the integration of DEI principles into every layer of the organisation—from design studios to dealer networks.
By 2030, Nissan aims to ensure its workforce, supply chain, and retail network fully mirror the diversity of its global customer base. The 2024 DEI Report sets out how regional initiatives are powering that long-term ambition—showing how inclusion is not just a policy, but a performance driver shaping the company’s culture and success.
