MAN reports strong first-half growth as electric vehicle sales accelerate

German truck and bus manufacturer records 8% increase in global unit sales in the first half of 2026, with demand for battery-electric trucks and buses continuing to rise

MAN Truck & Bus has reported an increase in global sales during the first half of 2026, driven by growth across its truck, bus, van and engine businesses, while demand for battery-electric vehicles continued to gain momentum.

The company sold around 51,000 units globally during the first six months of the year, representing an 8% increase compared with the same period in 2025. Truck sales reached approximately 32,000 units, up 10%, while bus deliveries rose by 2% to around 3,300 units. Van sales increased by 6% to just under 16,000 units.

MAN’s engine business also recorded growth, with sales increasing by 17% to nearly 6,000 units. While demand improved across several European markets, the company noted that Germany, traditionally one of its key markets, remained comparatively weaker.

The strongest growth came from fully electric vehicles, with sales increasing by 37% to around 1,100 units. This included approximately 600 electric trucks and more than 500 electric buses, reflecting growing customer interest in zero-emission transport solutions.

“The sales trend shows that our broad product range is holding its own in a challenging market environment. At the same time, battery-electric vehicles are becoming increasingly important to our customers,” says Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN.

MAN said it will continue expanding its battery-electric offering during the second half of the year, completing its electric vehicle portfolio across urban distribution, regional transport and long-haul applications.

The manufacturer’s electric truck range will cover applications from light-duty distribution to heavy-duty long-haul transport. The MAN eTGX and eTGS heavy-duty electric trucks offer a range of around 570km in a typical 4×2 tractor-semitrailer configuration, making them suitable for regional and long-distance operations.

For urban and regional distribution, MAN is introducing the new eTGM electric rigid truck, which offers a range of up to 500km. The company is also expanding its electric passenger transport offering, with customer deliveries of the fully electric MAN Lion’s Coach E scheduled to begin towards the end of 2026. The coach will offer a range of up to 650km.

The continued expansion of MAN’s electric portfolio comes as fleet operators across Europe and other markets increasingly look for solutions that combine lower emissions with operational efficiency. The company said the growth in electric vehicle sales highlights the increasing acceptance of battery-electric technology across commercial transport segments.

With new models entering service, MAN aims to provide customers with electric alternatives across a wider range of applications, from city logistics and regional distribution to long-distance passenger and freight transport.
