Continental receives Kalmar supplier award for sustainability

Kalmar, a leading manufacturer of heavy material-handling equipment and services for ports and terminals, recognises Conti’s leadership in environmental responsibility

Continental has been awarded the Kalmar Sustainability Award 2025 during this year’s Kalmar Supplier Day, held in Szczecin, Poland.

The award acknowledges Continental’s outstanding performance in sustainability stewardship, responsible sourcing and data transparency across the entire supply chain.

The recognition is based on Continental achieving the highest score on Kalmar’s independently assessed sustainability scorecard, which evaluates suppliers across several criteria – including active participation in Kalmar’s Supplier Engagement Program, provision of sustainability-related data, compliance with hazardous substances management, and adherence to codes of conduct.

“We are honored to receive this award from Kalmar, a valued customer with whom we have enjoyed a strong partnership for more than 15 years,” said Christian Berner, Global Key Account Manager for Port Operations at Continental. “This award is a testament to our shared values: a strong commitment to sustainability and lifecycle responsibility, as demonstrated in our yearly sustainability report.”

As Kalmar’s standard premium supplier for V.ply tires in port logistics, Continental equips key vehicle types such as reach stackers, empty-container handlers, heavy-duty forklifts, straddle carriers and terminal tractors. The premium tire manufacturer also provides radial tire solutions for container-handling vehicles, contributing to Kalmar’s global operations with robust and resource-efficient products. With its holistic product range, Continental is able to offer a product portfolio with products that best fit specific application needs.

Driving Sustainability Across the Tire Lifecycle

Continental’s sustainability vision extends across the entire tire lifecycle – from raw material sourcing to end-of-life recycling – and aims to make the value chains of their customers more and more carbon neutral. For the Port Operation Tires Business Field, this ambition translates into energy-efficient production, the use of more recyclable and renewable materials, and the development of long-lasting tire solutions such as the TerminalMaster, designed for enhanced reliability and minimized material waste over the product lifecycle.

Digital solutions for tire management like ContiConnect further reduce environmental impact by preventing under-inflation and premature wear, improving fuel efficiency, and extending tire life.

Earlier this year, Continental was named “Tire Manufacturer of the Year” at the Tire Technology International Awards – an acknowledgment of its commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility. The award in particular recognized the company’s environmentally friendly tire production.

“Kalmar and Continental share a deep alignment on sustainability ambitions and quality standards. This latest recognition reinforces the value of long-standing partnerships built on shared principles and a forward-looking mindset,” said Continental in a statement.
