Messe Frankfurt Middle East has confirmed the surprise departure of Gazi Bilikozen, Portfolio Director — Mobility & Logistics, marking the end of a 17-year chapter that saw Automechanika Dubai grow into the leading automotive aftermarket exhibition in the region.
Bilikozen’s tenure began in 2008 and spanned a variety of senior roles, including Senior Show Manager, Show Director and Portfolio Director. During that time, he played a transformative role in the development of the Automechanika brand across the Middle East, including its expansion into Saudi Arabia and the creation of flagship initiatives like the Automechanika Dubai Awards.
“It has been an incredible journey, and I feel deeply proud of what we’ve built together,” said Bilikozen in a statement. “Automechanika Dubai and Automechanika Riyadh have become more than just trade shows — they are drivers of innovation, connectors of people, and platforms for real business impact. I’m truly grateful to the leadership in both the UAE and Germany, as well as my brilliant team in Dubai, our valued partners, stakeholders and clients who have believed in the vision.”
Bilikozen led the brand through numerous innovations, such as launching dedicated zones for Tyres & Batteries and Oils & Lubricants, and establishing a formal advisory board to steer content and strategic direction. His leadership also ushered in Automechanika Jeddah in 2016, followed by a successful relaunch in Riyadh in 2024, reflecting his focus on regional growth and resilience post-pandemic.
His impact was especially visible in the most recent edition of Automechanika Dubai in 2024, which recorded its biggest turnout to date. The show welcomed 48,421 visitors from 149 countries, hosted 2,228 exhibitors, and expanded its floor space by 18%, with 62 countries represented across multiple product segments.
“Gazi has made several impressive contributions during his near two-decade tenure — something for which we are obviously very grateful. His passion and vision having helped position Automechanika Dubai as a catalyst for industry growth and innovation. He leaves behind an enduring legacy, and we are committed to building on the platform he had a huge role in creating,” said Ted Bloom, CEO of Messe Frankfurt Middle East.
Michael Johannes, Vice President — Mobility & Logistics of Messe Frankfurt GmbH, added, “I have had the privilege of working closely with Gazi over the years. His dedication and entrepreneurial spirit have facilitated the global development of the Automechanika brand. Gazi didn’t just contribute to our success in the Middle East; he also strengthened our position internationally. We deeply appreciate his contributions and wish him the best in his future endeavours.”
As Messe Frankfurt Middle East said it is focused on ensuring a seamless leadership transition.
A formal announcement on Bilikozen’s successor is expected soon. In the interim, daily operations for Automechanika Dubai will be overseen by Show Manager Tommy Le, while Aly Hefny will manage day-to-day activities for Automechanika Riyadh.
