Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has launched five new logistics corridors in a move designed to improve supply chain efficiency and strengthen connections between different transport modes, as the Kingdom seeks to expand its role in global trade.
The initiative supports both regional and international trade flows while advancing the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to position the country as a leading global logistics hub amid shifting supply chain dynamics.
The newly introduced corridors form an integrated network linking Arabian Gulf ports with central and northern regions of Saudi Arabia, extending onwards to Red Sea ports. By combining road and rail transport, the system is intended to create smoother cargo flows and more efficient freight movement across multiple routes.
SAR’s chief executive, Bashar Al-Malik, highlighted the rapid progress in the rail sector, attributing it to strong government backing. He said this development comes under the guidance of the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and SAR chairman, Saleh Al-Jasser, who views the sector as a key enabler of national growth.
Al-Malik said the corridors offer “an integrated package of logistics solutions that enhance supply chain efficiency and reliability under various conditions”, emphasising coordination between transport modes and authorities to improve operational performance.

Supporting a wide range of industries
The corridors are expected to support a wide range of industries, particularly petrochemicals and mining, while also boosting import and export activity. They will provide transit solutions for regional markets and serve major industrial firms, mining companies and leading shipping lines, helping to shorten transit times and improve efficiency.
Operations will be managed through a network that includes the Riyadh Dry Port and freight yards in Dammam, Jubail, Ras Al-Khair, Al-Kharj, Hail and Qurayyat. These facilities connect key industrial centres with Gulf and Red Sea ports, enhancing links between domestic and international markets.
The initiative is also expected to remove thousands of lorry journeys from roads, improving safety and cutting carbon emissions, while reducing delivery times.
Al-Malik added that the corridors will strengthen ties with global markets and cement Saudi Arabia’s position as a strategic logistics bridge between East and West, supporting smoother trade flows worldwid.
