Qatar has announced the full reopening of its waters to maritime traffic, signalling a return to normal activity after recent restrictions. The country’s Ministry of Transport confirmed that, from Sunday 12 April 2026, all vessels will once again be permitted to operate, albeit within designated daytime hours.
Under the updated rules, ships and other maritime vessels may navigate between 6:00am and 6:00pm. Fishing boats, however, will continue to benefit from round-the-clock access, maintaining the exemption granted under earlier directives. The move was detailed in an official statement issued on Saturday and reported by the national news agency.
While the resumption marks a significant step towards normality, authorities have made clear that safety remains a top priority. “All operators must ensure the availability and proper functioning of safety and security equipment before and during voyages,” the ministry said. It further emphasised that strict adherence is vital, noting that “adherence to these measures is essential to maintaining the highest standards of safety across all maritime trips”.
In addition to operational guidance, the ministry reiterated expectations around fair business practices within the sector. The announcement follows earlier instructions issued on 9 April, when Maritime Transport Affairs urged licensed providers to act transparently and responsibly in delivering services.
Officials pointed to existing maritime laws and regulatory frameworks as the basis for compliance, warning operators against exploiting the situation. “The current extraordinary circumstances must not justify any surcharges,” the ministry said, adding that breaches could lead to legal consequences.
The combined measures aim to ensure both safe navigation and equitable service as maritime activity resumes.
